Along the river banks of the Amazon and the Orinoco, there lives a bird that swims before it can fly, flies like a fat chicken, eats green leaves, has the stomach of a cow and has claws(爪)on its wings when young. They builc:l their homes about 4.6 m above the river, an important feature for the safety of the young. It is called the hoatzin.
In appearance, the birds of both sexes(性别)look very much alike with brown on the back and cream and red on the underside. The head is small, with a large set of feathers on the top, bright red eyes, and blue skin. Its nearest relatives are the common birds, cuckoos. Its most obvious(明显的)feature, though, is only found in the young.
Baby hoatzins have a claw on the leading edge of each wing and another at the end of each wing tip. Using these four claws, together with the beak(嘴),they can climb about in the bushes, looking very much like primitive birds(原始鸟)must have done. When the young hoatzins have learned to fly, they lose their claws.
During the drier months between December and March, hoatzins fly about the forest in groups of 20 to 30 birds, but in April, when the rainy season begins, they collect together in smaller living units of two to seven birds for producing

Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation(代)?
UBC Professor Simard explains how trees are much mere complex(复杂的)than most of us ever imagined. Although Charles Darwin thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard shows just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their co-operation(合作)and support, passing around necessary nutrition(营养)\"depending on who needs it\". Nutrition is shared through miles of underground fungi(真菌)networks, making sure that all trees in the forest ecological(生态)system give and receive the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons(神经元)in our head, and when one tree is cut down, it influences the whole forest.
Simard talks about \"mother trees\",usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals(矿物质)to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down“mother trees”without noticing these highly cotiiplex \"tree societies\" or the networks on which they feed, we are reducing they chances of survival for the forest.
\"We didn't take any notice of it.\" Simard says sadly. \"Dying trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them chance. \" If we could put across the message to the forestry industry,we could make a huge difference to our environmental protection efforts for the future.
( )31.\"Mother trees\" are extremely important because they . A. look the largest in size in the forest B. pass on nutrition to young trees
C. seem more likely to be cut down by humans D. know more about the complex \"tree societies\"
( )32. The underlined word \"it\" in the last paragraph refers to . A. how \"tree societies\" work B. how trees grow old C. how the forestry industry develops D. how young trees survive ( )33. What would be the best title for the passage? A. Old Trees Communicate Like Humans B. Young Trees Are In Need Of Protection
C. Trees Are Useful to Our Society
D. Trees Are More Admirable Than You Think

One weekend in May 2015,over 48 centimeters of rain fell in Houston, Texas,USA. Soon the city was covered with water. The rising water rushed into the cars on the roads. There were 16 deaths that weekend. Changing Weather
The weather is changing. Over the last few years, heavy rains have caused floods in Brazil, Pakistan, and Thailand. Droughts(干旱)have struck Russia and Australia. Heat waves have killed thousands of people in Europe. There are more different kinds of terrible wild weather all over the world. As more wild weather events happen, the world is beginning to ask questions like: What is going on with the weather? And why? Many also want to know: Is this natural, or are we to blame(承担责任)?
The answer seems to be: a little of both. Wild weather is natural. This global(全球的)warming makes heat waves more likely happen. The higher temperatures also cause more water to enter the air. This causes much more rain. Some scientists also believe global warming makes some storms stronger.
This means we're likely to see more wild weather. \"But we don't have to just stand there and take it,\" says Scientist Michael Oppenheimer. B. Humans have nothing to do with global warming. C. The weather will get better if we can stop global warming. D. To find ways to keep our things safe is the most important. ( )37. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. In May 2015,there was a deadly flood in Houston, Texas, USA. B. There are more kinds of terrible wild weather all over the world.

七、 Major Causes of Traffic Accidents
The police have recently made a survey on the major causes of traffic accidents in 2016. The two charts show that the three major causes of traffic accidents were driver, road environment and vehicle factors. The pie chart shows 85% of car accidents were caused by drivers while 10% by road environment and another 5% by vehicle itself.
The bar chart suggests that driver factors were mainly speeding, drunk driving, tired driving and not using seat belts. Speeding was the most dangerous action.
In my opinion, the drivers may be the biggest killer, on roads. I hope every one of us can follow the traffic rules for the safety of ourselves.
