Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the local people of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the local people become unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy(经济). It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance(推进) the well-being (health and happiness) of local people.

Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer.

On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a lot of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.

Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.

36. What is probably the reason if local people dislike tourists?

A. Tourists come to enjoy the customs and beauty. B. Local people lose jobs. C. A lot of hotels are built. D. Too many tourists cause traffic problems. 37. What can we do to solve the problems caused by tourism?

A. Make plans properly.

B. Help the country’s economy.

C. Build fewer hotels. D. Advance the well-being of local people. 38. If tourism grows too quickly, ___________.

A. businesses will lose money

B. other parts of the country’s economy will make more money C. local people will be happier D. more local people will work for tourists.

39. Support facilities needed by tourist attractions includes ___________.

①public places ②hotels ③airports ④roads ⑤electricity ⑥sewers A. ①②③④⑤

B. ②③④⑤⑥ C. ①②③⑤⑥ D. ①③④⑤⑥

40. If the writer wants to add Paragraph 5 to the passage, he may tell us ________.

A. whether people need to build more hotels

第 4 页

B. whether people need to plan tourism properly C. how to deal with the problems above D. how to prevent tourism growing too quickly

For years and years people have been saying that railways are dead. “We can do without railways,” people say—as if cars and planes have made railways unnecessary. We all keep hearing that trains are slow, lose money and are dying. But this is far from the truth. In these days of expensive oil, railways have become highly competitive with cars and planes. If you want to carry people or goods from place to place, they’re cheaper than planes. And they have much in common with planes. A plane goes in a straight line and so does a railway. What is more, a railway takes you from the heart of a city center. It doesn’t stop you as a car does on crowded roads. And no plane or car can ever carry as many goods as one train does.

Far from being dead, railways are much alive. Modern railway lines give you a comfortable journey. Where else can you eat well, sleep comfortably, feel safe and enjoy the scene while you are traveling at the same time? And we are only the beginning, for we have just entered the age of super-fast trains, which are traveling 150 miles an hour and more. Soon we will be wondering why we spent so much on highways and planes we can’t fly in because we don’t have enough money to buy the oil.

46. Some people think railways are dying because______.

A. trains are slow B. oil is expensive today C. planes and cars are expensive D. railways look ugly 47. The writer thinks that railways are much alive because___________.

A. they are cheaper and more convenient B. there aren’t any planes or cars C. we can have a comfortable journey D. we feel dangerous on highways 48. According to the writer, which of the following is NOT true? A. It is cheaper to travel by train than by plane

B. The railway station is usually at the center of the city. C. No car or plane can carry as many goods as a train.

D. When you get off a plane you will find yourself right in the city center. 49. What does the underline word competitive prefer to?

A. 参与性的 B. 性价比高的 C. 竞争性的 D. 对比性的 50. The best title for this passage may be __________. A. Which is the Best, Train, Car or Plane? B. Railways, not the End, but the Beginning

C. Trains are More Competitive than Cars or Planes D. Oh, Super-fast Trains

第一节:要点摘录(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

阅读下面材料,然后根据材料内容,补全对应表格中所缺失的信息,每空仅填一词. The problem of debt(债务) among teenagers in western countries is becoming worse and worse. Aren't they following their parents’ advice, or aren't the parents teaching their children about money? Here is some advice that children as young as eight or nine can understand.

First of all, you should learn to save before you buy. When you receive money, you should save some of it, maybe 30%. After this, spend what you want. Secondly, you’d better watch your money. Don’t trust other people with it. Don’t lend money and don’t try to buy friends. If friends want your money, they aren't real friends. Another piece of advice is to buy only what you can afford. If that MP5 player or iPhone costs more than you have, then you don’t need it. Don’t borrow money for it, either. If you really want something, you can save for it. Saving teaches discipline(自律). Also, after you have saved up enough money, you may realize you don’t really want it after all. Finally, you are supposed not to compare what you have with what your friends have. That expensive iPad of your friend may be borrowed or paid for with borrowed money. There is an old saying: “Give a person a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a person how to fish, and he will eat for the rest of his life. “This is also true when we teach our children about money. Don’t buy everything your children want. If you teach them good habits, they will always look after their money Introduction Body Debt among western teenagers is increasing. Advice Save before you buy.
