SCOPE This specification describes materials that are suitable for use in automotive floor carpet applications.

REQUIREMENTS The material shall be constructed using synthetic fibres, dyed and finished with an approved backing to become acceptable in colour, pattern and physical properties as outlined in this specification.

Unless otherwise specified, the material shall be tested under standard conditions as described in HN 0022.

Floor carpet constructions intended for use must be tested on samples taken from a moulded carpet without attached absorber materials. 4. 5.

The colour and pattern shall be approved by Holden Design Department. The colour of production deliveries shall be matched to the approved colour master and manufactured within a tolerance designated by Holden Design Department.

5.4 Tensile Strength (AS 2001.2.3, Clause 8.3 Grab Test)

The minimum tensile strength of the carpet shall be –

Warp direction 700N Weft direction

5.4.1

Tensile strength after ageing for 30 days at 93 ± 2°C

The tensile strength shall be a minimum of 80% of the original value found prior to ageing.

5.5 Tear Strength (HN 00)

The tear strength of the carpet shall be a minimum of 90N in both the warp and weft directions.

5.6 Fibre Loss (SAE J1530, Method B)

The above method is to be followed with the following exceptions:

1. Set the vacuum control at 100%. 2. Mounting cards are not used.

3. Fibre is not collected. Disregard related instructions. 4. Do not fold the test specimen. Punch out the hole. 5.

Set counter to 300 cycles.

The amount of fibre loss shall not exceed 0.05% of the weight of the face fibre (in g/m2) as specified in Table 1.

Cut 4 samples approximately 250 x 250 mm.

Oven age 2 samples for 336 hours at 93 ± 2°C.

Fold the samples, both oven aged and as received, face to face and back to back around a 76 mm mandrel at -20°C.

The backing shall not break, crack, stiffen or in any other way show signs of deterioration. There shall be no strike-through of the backing that can be detected on the face.

5.11 Mildew

(HN 0028)

There shall be no mildew or objectionable odour.

5.12 Flammability (GM6090M)

The material shall not burn or transmit a flame front across its surface at a rate of more than 100 mm/minute when tested in accordance with GM6090M (B4-A).

If the material stops burning before it has burned for 60 seconds from the start of timing and has not burned more than 50 mm from the point where timing was started, it shall be considered to meet the burn rate requirements.

5.13 Colourfastness to Light

5.13.1

Townsville Sunlight Exposure (HN 0068)

Extreme sunlight areas 150,000 Langleys under glass. (eg. Rear parcel shelf, rear quarter trims).

High sunlight areas

80,000 Langleys under glass. (eg, Wagon load floors).

Low sunlight areas

40,000 Langleys under glass. (eg, Door deposit boxes, Floor areas).

No exposure is required for

trunk applications.

Xenon Arc Exposure

(SAE J1885)

Extreme sunlight areas 450 kJ/m² total exposure.

High sunlight areas 225 kJ/m² total exposure.

Low sunlight areas

110 kJ/m² total exposure. (except trunk applications)

Specimens shall be cut from the part then exposed in a suitable weatherometer to Xenon Arc according to SAE J1885 for periods of exposures as shown above.

5.13.3

After the above exposures, the colourfastness rating of the specimen shall be 4 minimum on the Grey Scale (ISO 105-A02). A change in colour or a bleached-out condition is unsatisfactory.

The sample shall also show no stiffening or fibre degradation due to finishes or backing materials used.

5.14 Colourfastness to Water (AS 2001.4.8)

The material shall exhibit no apparent change due to wash out of dye stuffs, and the contact fabrics shall show no more than 'slight staining'.

5.15 Colour Crocking (Wet and Dry) (AS 2001.4.3)

The material when subjected to 10 strokes on the crockometer in an “as received” or after 55,000 Langleys exposure at Townsville, shall conform to a colour staining rating of 4 minimum on the Grey Scale (ISO 105-A03).

5.16 Resistance to Water Spotting and Finish Disturbance (GM9133P)

There shall be no change in colour or finish when subjected to 30 drops of distilled water.

5.17 Cleanability (HN 0057 Part 1)

There shall be no change in colour or finish.

5.18 Fogging (SAE J1756)

Photometric Procedure: Bath temperature of 85°C; cooling temperature of 38°C; 6h test time; 16h post conditioning time . The amount of fog when measured with a 60° glossometer shall have a rating of 60 units or more. Samples that result in a residue that forms a transparent film, discernable droplets, or any signs of crystallinity when using 200X magnification, shall be judged to have not passed this requirement.
