Ask students to make a oral summary of Text A or they can express their own views on the issue of modern communication. 2. How Modern Communication Development Is Changing Our Society The Internet was introduced to China in 1994. This is an inspiring moment because it has brought unpredicted changes to this ancient country. More and more Chinese people began to communicate with each other via the Internet. This is a totally new and fresh experienceLead-in to the Chinese people, because before this, few of us (15min) ever imagined talking before the screen, enjoying online games, sending and receiving letters in a second which usually needs a few days in the past, and selling and buying things on the Internet. As more things can be done on the Internet, more traditional jobs are being replaced by new ones – part time translator, online medical consultation, outsourcing, and more. Another important invention is the mobile phone. This technology also first appeared in America and was spread to the rest of the world in just a few years. Small but powerful, the mobile phone permits people to communicate anywhere in anytime. As a result, people’s contact becomes easier. If a person wants to talk to his or her parents or friends, what he or she has to do is dial a number and talk. Now the 3G mobile phone technology, which first appeared in Japan, is developing rapidly. This technology differs from traditional mobile communication technologies in its capability of integrating into the Internet and the new development of video information exchange. A mobile phone will be able to do more jobs that are usually done by a computer. This is quite exciting and expecting. Ask students to give their answers in class Check and Encourage students to discuss in small groups on the correction of topic in Exercise B homework (20min) Grammar tips (15min) First, ask Ss to preview the explanation and then give further study of the grammar tip.
