A Little Dilemma, also called A Love for Dilemma, has recently become a popular topic on the Internet, making people reflect on (反省) their own parenting skills and worries.

The TV play tells the story of two families with different parenting styles. One couple are the classic (典型的) “tiger parents” that ask their children always to be the best at everything, while the other couple are relaxed and allow their kids to have more fun and freedom.

In the TV play, the two families are trying to help their children in primary school get prepared for middle school, a quite important and competitive period for Chinese students.

“In China, the knowledge that students gain in the first year of middle school is often twice as much as what they learn in a primary school year. Also, competition among students often becomes serious as soon as they start their middle school life,” said Zhao, a middle school teacher in Beijing.

“I’ve made my son attend different after-school classes in hopes that he can do well in all his subjects and have more choices in the future. It is really difficult for him, but the fact is that everybody does this. We can’t be the only different ones,” said Zhang, a mum of an eighth-grader in Chengdu.

“The important thing is that parents should face their fears, and not turn their fears into pressure (压力) on their children. Besides, it is not good to compare (比较) your children with other kids as that can hurt their pride deeply,” said Wang, a parenting expert in Beijing.

57. The story of the two families is written to ______ .

A. lead into the topic B. give a bad example C. explain“tiger parents’ D. recommend the TV play 58. Who is most probably a “tiger parent” according to the passage?

D. The children in the TV play can plan their studies by themselves.

That winter my father became seriously ill, and my mother and I looked after the inn (小酒馆) . One January morning, the captain (船长) went out for his walk. My mother was with my father, and I was laying the table (摆放餐桌) for the captain. A tall, pale man with only three fingers on his left hand came in.

“Has he got a scar (疤) on his right cheek (面颊) ?” he asked. “Yes,” I answered. “He went for a walk.”

When the stranger (陌生人) saw the captain returning, he hid behind the door. I knew that something was wrong and I was worried, because both men had swords (剑) .

The captain was walking to his breakfast table, when the stranger said loudly, “Bill!” The captain turned round and the colour left his face. “Black Dog!” he gasped (倒吸一口气) .

“Let’s get some rum (朗姆酒) ,” said Black Dog, and talked like old shipmates.

I gave them some rum and went back to work. The men’s voices soon grew louder and I heard the captain shouting, “No, no, no!”

Both men jumped up, and they fought with each other. Black Dog ran out of the inn with blood running down his shoulder. The captain stood and watched as he disappeared (消失) over the hill. Then he came back into the inn.

“Jim,” he said. “Rum!” “Are you hurt?” I cried.

“Rum,” he repeated. “I must get away from here. Rum! Rum!”

When I came back with the rum I found the captain lying on the floor. His eyes were closed and his face was pale. But he was still alive. Just at that moment Dr Livesey arrived to see my father.

Do you know the popular True Colours Personality Test? It uses the colours orange, gold, blue and green to represent four different personality types. Everybody has all the four colours to some degree. But for most people, one of the four types plays a leading role.

The four colours combine (组合) in different ways to make up different personality spectrums (光谱) . Test takers answer a series of questions about their likes and dislikes. You can know your true colour according to your answers. This is the colour that best describes your personality.

The colour orange represents joy and excitement. Those who have a true colour of orange are often humorous and full of energy. They would like to be leaders instead of followers. They often learn by doing rather than reading or listening. They enjoy a challenge, and like to see fast results.

Gold represents responsibility (责任) . If your true colour is gold, you are more likely to be trusted by your friends, leaders and family. You are proud of being organized and working hard.

People with a true colour of blue value (珍视) friendship and honesty. Their life centre is around people. They feel happy helping workmates, friends, family and partners. When there’s a problem, they come up with their own way to deal with it. If your true colour is blue, you’re probably a warm and loyal friend. You may also be creative in music and art.

People with a true colour of green love knowledge and thinking. They are good at using research to help them make hard decisions. Others may think they are cold because it’s difficult for them to express how they feel.

Colours play an important part in making nature beautiful. They are also very important in some expressions (表达) . Green is such a colour.

Green is one of the basic colours in nature. We can see it in most plants like grass and trees. Because green represents new life, it gives people a fresh and lively feeling. But in some expressions, such as greenhorn, green thumb, green-eyed monster and green light, “green”makes them have interesting meanings.

A greenhorn is someone who is new to a situation. However, its meaning that we know today was decided in the 18th century. At first, it referred to (指的是) a young cow or ox. Later, it meant a soldier (士兵) who had no experience in wars.

As for “green thumb”, it means someone who has the ability to grow plants well. A person with a green thumb seems to have magic to make plants grow quickly and well.

“Green” is also used to describe a bad mood — envy. For example, the green-eyed monster is an expression from Shakespeare’s play Othello. It describes the unhappy feeling of wanting something that someone else has.

A green light is a signal (信号) to move ahead. When the traffic lights turn green, it means people can continue on. In everyday speech, a green light means approval (允许) to continue with a project.

76. What kind of feeling can green trees give people? 77. What does the sentence “I’m a greenhorn” mean?

78. How do we use “green” to express “He’s good at growing plants”? 79. Where does “the green-eyed monster” come from? 80. How do people act when they meet a green light? 六、词汇 (共20小题, 每小题1分, 计20分)
